Listening to God - Part 2
Continued
God wanted to visit
the israelites, instead of talking to them through Moses. But
the people were too afraid
Exodus
20:18. And all the people perceived the thunder and the lightning
flashes and the sound of the trumpet and the mountain smoking;
and when the people saw it, they trembled and stood at a distance.
19. Then they said to Moses, "Speak to us yourself and we
will listen; but let not God speak to us, lest we die."
Thus started the ministry
of the prophets first with Moses. God spoke to His people through
the prophets, but still ruled them corporately
But then it gets even
sadder. Our wonderful God being rejected as ruler by the ones
He had chosen. They wanted a King like the other nations had.
They felt that would be better than having God lead them
.....Hearken unto the
voice of the people in all that they say unto thee: for they have
not rejected thee, but they have rejected me, that I should not
reign over them.1 Samuel 8:7b
How sad that the Holy
Spirit was rejected as guide and leader and defender. You can
almost hear God's heart breaking. He had been wanting a people
in fellowship with Him, a body of people who would be guided and
defended by Him

And so the prophet became
the outsider who kept being rejected and killed by the people,
when the Father tried to speak to them.
So at last He sent His
precious Son Jesus. And with Him a new day dawned. Once again
there would be a people gathered together under the rulership
of the Spirit of God. And so it came about as He had taught them
that He had to go away so the Holy Spirit could come and He would
teach them all things. Pentecost came and the Holy Spirit showed
the believers a new way how to gather to ask His discernment on
matters of importance. Where each person would bring the riches
out of the indwelling all knowing God withing them. For this was
the new covenant. When no one would have to teach his neighbour
to know God.
