Food for thought    29th May 09 weekend

Merely having an open mind is nothing. The object of opening the mind,
as of opening the mouth, is to shut it again on something solid.
- G. K. Chesterton

The Lord is saying. Do not be afraid to speak what is on your mind to me for I will reveal to you what you are to think, and what you are to feel. I will replace the way you feel with the way I feel. I will replace what you think with what I think. Be honest with me. I can work with honesty. I can work with the truth. I know your deepest hurts and your wildest dreams. I can change everything in a split second and turn your whole situation that has been static for many years on its head. Remember that I spin the universe yet also know the number of the very hairs on your head. When there is delay in how you expect a good loving God to work then understand that a good loving God knows why and do not grumble, but rejoice. If you knew of my love for you, you would never question my dealings with you.

Today's thought
by Alan Kirkham

I remember an old saying: STOP, LOOK, and LISTEN from a TV ad; now apply that to every thing we do and we will know how to: STOP: and be still instead of diving right into dealing with every thing in our way. LOOK: at the situation through the eyes of the Holy Spirit where our vision will change to love instead of gain, judgement, my point of view etc. LISTEN: to that still quiet voice that will reveal the truth in every thing, even though we may not want to do it, for the fear of upsetting someone, trying too hard to please everyone, being unsure how to say what we know to be the truth, I could go on and on. So there we have 3 things we can use for everything. Now that's amazing 3 things Father = Stop Son = Look and Spirit = Listen "simple but effective"

Isaiah 55
Invitation to the Thirsty
1 "Come, all you who are thirsty,
come to the waters;
and you who have no money,
come, buy and eat!
Come, buy wine and milk
without money and without cost.
2 Why spend money on what is not bread,
and your labor on what does not satisfy?
Listen, listen to me, and eat what is good,
and your soul will delight in the richest of fare.

3 Give ear and come to me;
hear me, that your soul may live.
I will make an everlasting covenant with you,
my faithful love promised to David.

4 See, I have made him a witness to the peoples,
a leader and commander of the peoples.

5 Surely you will summon nations you know not,
and nations that do not know you will hasten to you,
because of the LORD your God,
the Holy One of Israel,
for he has endowed you with splendor."

6 Seek the LORD while he may be found;
call on him while he is near.

7 Let the wicked forsake his way
and the evil man his thoughts.
Let him turn to the LORD, and he will have mercy on him,
and to our God, for he will freely pardon.

8 "For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways,"
declares the LORD.

9 "As the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoughts.

10 As the rain and the snow
come down from heaven,
and do not return to it
without watering the earth
and making it bud and flourish,
so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater,

11 so is my word that goes out from my mouth:
It will not return to me empty,
but will accomplish what I desire
and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.

12 You will go out in joy
and be led forth in peace;
the mountains and hills
will burst into song before you,
and all the trees of the field
will clap their hands.

13 Instead of the thornbush will grow the pine tree,
and instead of briers the myrtle will grow.
This will be for the LORD's renown,
for an everlasting sign,
which will not be destroyed."

The rose.

The blush on the rose will not falter to bless every heart with great love

For the rose is a gift from the Father Who longs to share in a language from above

For He is the Father who is faithful longing that all His children might hear

What is deep in the depths of His heart and how He holds all so dear

Springing forth from the earth as diamonds is the love of God for me

Reaching all those hurting places, now and when by the lee.

The daffodils now blooming as in centuries past of old can cool and bring such solace more sure than refined gold

The cry of the heart for comfort may daunt the human man, but He in all his glory will show how much He can.

Catherine O'Halloran.
