good and not of disaster, to give you a future and a hope.
Ffald-y-Brenin
Some
of you might know that I recently visited Ffald-y-Brenin, Fishguard,
Wales, a Christian retreat centre where God is moving mightily.
People are often so affected by the presence of God there, that
their lives are changed.
GOD'S
EXTENDED RULERSHIP IN A LOCALITY
The
event I attended was a teaching day on how to set up a local
house of prayer. Roy Godwin believes that the wonderful things
that are happening at Ffald-y-Brenin, God wants to happen in
other locations.
So
I've been trying to decipher my notes, putting them in some
sort of order to present them to you... so here goes.
Roy
taught that when we pray that God's Kingdom come (It helped
me when he defined this as God's rule) into a particular locality,
and that phenomena happens, everything has to bow its knee to
the Lordship of Jesus. As you can imagine situations and people's
hearts are radically changed under these awesome circumstances.
When God's rules in a locality, His will starts to manifest
instead of the devil's or people's. When His will has come upon
a bit of the earth, people are healed easily.
What can we do?
No
timetables no agendas. No stress. If God's not in what you think
it should be - don't try to make it happen, but let what God
wants mature and grow naturally, and just see what God is evolving.
It shouldn't conform to us and to our ideas. We only need to
listen and be obedient to God.
We have to ask Him what He is doing, what His plans are, what
He wants for a location and be obedient to what He is asking.
"What
are you doing Lord ? "
"How are you working? "
"How can I engage with you for the people? "
PRAYING
BLESSINGS
Roy
advocates that you start a group. The group gets together to
pray and exercise the ministry of blessing. Their goal is to
bless their immediate community. When they pray they bless the
location, bless the ground, bless the land that Jesus be glorified
in that place. They bless the house they are praying in. In
Roy Godwin's book he writes how he was shown to 'press' the
blood of Jesus into the fabric of the building. It's good to
ask the Lord how to pray for the building and how to bless it,
because each location is different and God will have a different
strategy for each place, because only He knows what has happened
there and what He wants to use the location for..
Then
they bless the people in the community. Roy said that always
brought up questions about blessing people who are doing evil.
He suggested you say "I bless whatever is clean".
Sometimes
you will be given the opportunity to bless someone face to face.
Hardly anyone refuses when asked if they want a blessing.. Roy
showed us that you look them in the eye and be very natural,
and not come over all religious. You could say something like
"I bless you in the name of Jesus. I bless you to all the
fullness of life. I bless you in every area of your life, socially,
spiritually, physically, financially
The
group come together and bless the Lord. When they bless the
Lord in praise and worship they are making the place conducive
for Him to dwell, for He "inhabits the praises of His people".
When the group at Ffald-y-Brenin told the Lord "We bless
the sense of your presence" the sense of His Presence multiplied
significantly. Blessing doesn't have to be singing. You can
think of creative ways to bless Him. It's all about having Jesus
in the house. Healings come from the presence of Jesus.
PRAYER
BASED MISSION GROUPS
This is a suggested structure to start a prayer based mission
group.
Meet in someone's house. Let God add to the group.
Start to pray for people in that locality. Roy advocated that
you ask the Lord to show you 5 people to pray for 5 minutes,
5 days a week for 5 weeks. Review what is happening with these
individuals. Pray about the things you have noticed about them.
God will be revealing things. If there is someone who is not
showing signs of response, replace with someone else to make
the 5 up. (Not that God has forgotten them)
You could pray that God will make his presence inescapable to
them. Pray that they will have dreams, that they will come to
a knowledge of God and that Jesus may come to them and reveal
Himself to them . God has been working powerfully giving Muslims
dreams about Him.
Roy suggested using the Lord's prayer.
Our
Father..... we identify with the community. He is OUR Father.
Father, Fathers do things that Father's do... they want to bless.
Hallowed be thy Name. .... Use the name of God that is appropriate
for the needs of the area. If there is poverty Jehovah Jirah
is our provider.
The focus is upon praying for God's kingdom in the location.
It isn't a healing meeting, But if someone is in need, then
pray. But focus is on mission
Ask
the Lord:-
"Who or what is God putting in front of me I can bless
or affirm?"
"Who is God putting in front of us who needs mercy and
help?"
"Who is God putting in front of me I can share gospel with?"
"Who is God putting in front of us who can join the prayer
group?"
When the Lord has shown you to ask someone to join the group,
don't go into too much detail. Tell them you get together to
pray blessings on the community and ask them if they would like
to come for a cup of tea and join you sometimes.
Your group could have meals together, invite people for coffee
mornings, or just suggest meeting up to have fun.
