A lesson from Abraham about Law and Grace

12th April 08

When I went to the Lord He took me to Abraham again. This time he told me today that I must believe. Abraham was very happy as usual and the Lord told me to talk to him and listen. I went to sit by him and the Lord was okay with that.

I wanted to know about praising in all things. I sort of confronted him in a way. I wanted to know about when he went and made Hagar pregnant and how that could possibly be praised about. Making a mistake like that was massive and resulted in all the wars between the Arabs and the Israelites today. He told me to look in the bible about Hagar and I would see.

Galatians 4:22-31

For it is written, that Abraham had two sons, the one by a bondmaid, the other by a freewoman.
But he who was of the bondwoman was born after the flesh; but he of the freewoman was by promise.
Which things are an allegory: for these are the two covenants; the one from the mount Sinai, which gendereth to bondage, which is Agar.
For this Agar is mount Sinai in Arabia, and answereth to Jerusalem which now is, and is in bondage with her children.
But Jerusalem which is above is free, which is the mother of us all.
For it is written, Rejoice, thou barren that bearest not; break forth and cry, thou that travailest not: for the desolate hath many more children than she which hath an husband.
Now we, brethren, as Isaac was, are the children of promise.
But as then he that was born after the flesh persecuted him that was born after the Spirit, even so it is now.
Nevertheless what saith the scripture? Cast out the bondwoman and her son: for the son of the bondwoman shall not be heir with the son of the freewoman.
So then, brethren, we are not children of the bondwoman, but of the free. Also Isaiah 54.

Abraham explained that this was such a perfect example of the difference between us being in the flesh and in the Spirit. How that he had been promised a son and that tension between the time of the promise and the conception of that son was the time that he needed to walk in faith. Its a lesson we can learn from. Its a very good reason why we can praise in all things and specifically why I can praise in my relationships because I have ample opportunities to believe when I can't see. BLESSED ARE THOSE WHO BELIEVE AND HAVE NOT SEEN. Because the JUST SHALL LIVE BY FAITH and that when we LOOK NOT TO THE SEEN BUT TO THE UNSEEN IT HOLDS FOR US A FAR GREATER WEIGHT OF GLORY.

God loves it when we believe and praise when it looks impossible. How could I have a chance to believe without seeing, without it looking impossible now? I remembered the pineapple tapes and how God loves it when we are in faith. Blessed are they who believe without seeing. When someone I know seems cold or nasty, it's a time of waiting and of tension until God steps in and then on that day when He has fulfilled the promise that there will be nothing missing and nothing broken. Then I will know and I will not need faith anymore.

So I could praise with Abraham that he had learnt a lesson and his children would learn the lesson too and that in the fullness of time all would bow their knee to Jesus.

Then I wanted to know if I had fallen from grace because I had started coming under law years ago. Abraham explained that there was no sin to a believer. I really wanted to believe this. He said he would prove it. He took me on a wonderful bible study.

Romans 4:1-8

What shall we say then that Abraham our father, as pertaining to the flesh, hath found?
For if Abraham were justified by works, he hath whereof to glory; but not before God.
For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness.
Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt.
But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.
Even as David also describeth the blessedness of the man, unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works,Saying, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered.
Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin.
23 Now it was not written for his sake alone, that it was imputed to him;
But for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if we believe on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead;

I could see clearly even when he had made the mistake of making Hagar pregnant under the pressure of Sarah God was not angry with him and even when he told Pharoah that Sarah was his sister. Abraham went into the flesh but God wasn't angry but worked on his behalf and turned it all to good. There was no transgression.

Romans 4:14. Because the law worketh wrath: for where no law is, there is no transgression.

It was difficult for me to believe this but there it was in black and white. Abraham told me of another scripture to look at.
Romans 8 :31. What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?
32. He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?
33. Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God's elect? It is God that justifieth.

I could see clearly that the Lord favoured Abraham because he believed and did not impute any sin. Abraham asked me what I wanted. Did I want this. Of course I said yes.

He was saddling a horse. He seemed in a hurry. I asked if I could come. I had a white horse. The Lord was there too on a horse. I saw on the right of the path, people pleading for help wanting to be free. Abraham told me that these were the Christians who are under law and do not know the truth. On the left a bit further on were people who were revelling in sin. These did not care. Abraham told me that the only sin is not believing. Because for the believers there is no sin. The people who did not believe needed telling. Then we got to some beautiful people who were ministering to us. They were in white and you could tell they were holy.. Abraham explained that these were those who had been established in the truth. He explained that I was not established yet and not to tell anyone about this for six months as I needed to be established in it first. I reckon there would be much opposition to what Abraham told me.
